Frequently Asked Questions
What is counselling?
Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns, in a safe environment. Exploring your thoughts and behaviours can help you to develop a better understanding of yourself and others. It can also help you to find your own solutions in life, whether that's making effective changes or finding new ways to cope with problems.

Unlike talking to friends and family, counselling offers a unique relationship, free from judgment and without being offered solutions or ways to 'fix' things. My aim is always to hear your story from your perspective and to accompany you on your journey of self-discovery. The counselling relationship will be honest and real in its interactions - supporting your potential for self awareness and growth.
How long does counselling last?
This will be different for each individual. I work in an 'open ended' way, meaning that we are not limited to a specific number of sessions. We will regularly review our work together, planning for an ending when appropriate. Some people may like to work to an allocated number of sessions (e.g six) this can also be accommodated.

Each session is 50 minutes long and I recommend attending weekly. However, your requirements and availability can be individually discussed.
Is counselling confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship, and I respect the trust placed upon me in our work together. Our discussions will remain confidential unless I am legally required to make a disclosure or if you, or another person, is at risk of serious harm. This will be discussed in greater detail during our first session together.

Professionally, I engage in regular supervision to reflect on my practice, receive guidance, and uphold ethical standards of care that support client well-being. Any client work presented in supervision will be anonymized and confidentiality will be maintained.
The weight of everything I was carrying is much lighter.
How do I know if you're the right counsellor for me?
An introductory phone call before our first session can help to establish if I am the right counsellor for you, and allows you to ask any questions you may have. You might need to consider the type of therapy you need, as well as practical details like availability, and location. While I hope we can work well together, there is no obligation to continue if you feel uncertain. We frequently review our progress and I appreciate your feedback, which can further improve our work together.
Do you offer online counselling?
I am currently only accepting face-to-face clients. Online work may be considered for established clients.

What type of counselling do you offer?
I am a Humanistic counsellor, dedicated to assisting my clients in exploring their feelings, experiences, and personal growth in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. I believe that individuals possess an inherent potential to grow, heal, and find solutions to their problems. My practice is grounded in Person-Centred therapy, although I may integrate other therapeutic approaches and psychoeducation based on the unique needs of each client. You can read more about Humanistic Counselling here, and Person Centred Counselling here.
Having a safe, accepted as I am, space has been really helpful.
What should I expect during a session?
Our first session is an opportunity to introduce ourselves in more detail. I will explain how I work and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We will establish a collaborative agreement on how we will work together. Going forward, the sessions will be led by you, focusing on topics or discussions of your choice.
Understanding that meeting for the first time and engaging in counselling may be a new or challenging experience, I hope you will find me to be approachable, friendly and professional, helping you feel at ease.
